What is the skin barrier, and how do you care for it?
Your skin barrier is part of the outermost surface of your skin. It helps limit moisture loss and protects against things that can irritate. Gentle everyday care supports that work.
Think bricks and mortar
Flattened skin cells and the lipids between them work together. Bricks and mortar are a useful analogy, although skin is living tissue, not an impenetrable wall. You can explore the simplified model in our interactive Skin School.
What does gentle care look like?
Use a cleanser without aggressive scrubbing, follow with moisturizer, and avoid repeatedly adding new products. If washing leaves your face uncomfortable, reconsider the way you cleanse rather than treating tightness as proof that it worked.
What do ceramides do?
Ceramides are among the lipids associated with the skin barrier. In a formula, they help support moisture-barrier care. They work as part of a complete product, not as a guarantee that a formula will suit every person.
How Seoul Root fits in
Bright Start is our daily face wash, designed to cleanse without stripping. Stay Soft is the moisturizing step that follows. You can read the selected ingredients and full ingredient list on each product page before deciding whether either belongs in your routine.
When to ask for help
Dryness or stinging does not tell you the cause on its own. This guide cannot diagnose barrier damage. Stop products that irritate and speak with a qualified dermatologist if discomfort persists. There is no fixed countdown or promised number of days for your skin to feel better.
